A perfect-storm combination of public<br \/>\ndisinformation and fake news has prompted some citizens to link <strong>5G <\/strong>to<br \/>\nCOVID-19.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The theories are as varied as they are full<br \/>\nof nonsense.<\/p>\n<p>Some say 5G is making the effects of the<br \/>\nvirus worse. Others believe that there is no coronavirus at all, that<br \/>\ngovernments are making it all up to hide the real cause of the symptoms: 5G.<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A good reminder of<br \/>\nhow important it is to communicate technological advances properly.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<h2><strong><em>News from the frontlines&#8230;<\/em><\/strong> <\/h2>\n<p>Another week has gone by, bringing with it<br \/>\nnew tech initiatives to fight the spread of COVID-19. Here are some of this<br \/>\nweek&#8217;s most note-worthy new developments:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A team of researchers created an <strong>AI <\/strong>tool <a href=\"https:\/\/www.euronews.com\/2020\/04\/06\/artificial-intelligence-used-to-predict-which-coronavirus-patients-are-at-greater-risk-of\" target=\"_blank\">capable of predicting<\/a> the chance of a patient developing acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). This promising algorithm provided 80% accuracy during initial tests, opening new possibilities to identify potentially critical patients early on. <\/p>\n<p>Other efforts are also leveraging data and computation to find a solution to our current situation. AI and public health researchers at MIT and Harvard <a href=\"https:\/\/hbr.org\/2020\/04\/fighting-coronavirus-with-big-data\" target=\"_blank\">have pointed<\/a> at the importance of <strong>Big Data <\/strong>in the fight against the coronavirus. <\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/z96x.mjt.lu\/tplimg\/z96x\/b\/xhrtw\/vi4ix.jpeg\"><\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<p>Finally, the big names in tech keep<br \/>\nannouncing pandemic-related initiatives.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Intel <a href=\"https:\/\/hitconsultant.net\/2020\/04\/07\/intel-pandemic-response-technology-initiative-to-combat-coronavirus\/#disqus_thread\" target=\"_blank\">pledged<br \/>\n<\/a>$50<br \/>\nmillion to accelerate access to technology at the point of patient care.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the CEO of Twitter and Square, Jack<br \/>\nDorsey, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/jackkelly\/2020\/04\/08\/jack-dorsey-pledges-1-billion-to-fight-covid-19-a-number-of-other-ceos-have-stepped-up-by-taking-pay-cuts-and-prohibiting-layoffs\/#23dd9e5f7db4\" target=\"_blank\">offered<br \/>\n$1 billion<\/a> (roughly 28% of his wealth) to<br \/>\nfund global COVID-19 relief efforts.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Things really escalate quickly sometimes.
